I thought Tracy was a woman too; I also thought the same thing about Tracy Hickman (of the Dragonlance novels). Stupid me.
Incidentally, my best friend from Junior High is now a manager of construction projects; when I told him that software developers use building construction as their counter-example of projects that have predictable schedules and deliverables, his jaw dropped.
I lived not far from the “House” in the book when I was in western MA — and one of the owners was my attorney. Really interesting person on so many levels. I like Kidder, he also wrote a very interesting book entitled “Among Schoolchildren” — his long-term observations of a classroom in an inner city school — though it might be more interesting to me because I taught in that city. And finally “Home Town” which is essentially about Northampton, MA, where I once lived, so another fav.
It’s a small world, isn’t it? I guess that makes it 1 degree of separation from me to Jonathan Souweine and two to Tracy Kidder.
An opposite example would be sci-fi writer Andre Norton. But as it turns out she actually legally changed her name.
